Reinforced concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world today. It has a long record of outstanding structural performance under the most severe conditions. Concrete becomes stronger as it ages, unlike other materials that can weaken and decay. For information about just one of the advantages of concrete pipe over pipe made of other materials please read on.
U.P. Concrete Pipe Company manufactures precast manholes and catch basins specific to each storm, sanitary sewer and watermain project. Standard circular manholes and catch basins meet ASTM C-478 standards. These manhole assemblies can be furnished with or without reinforced plastic manholes steps. Engineers at U.P. Concrete Pipe Company will do “take-off” details from project plans and specifications for each manhole and catch basin to ensure easy installation and proper fit. (Square, rectangular and special design geometries are available upon request and are typically site specific.)

Several types of wall penetration water-tight seals are available. One such product is the Kor-N-Seal connection manufactured by Trelleborg Pipe Seals / NPC. These seals provide a flexible, watertight and environmentally safe joint that exceeds ASTM C-923 specifications and is ideally suited for pipe to manhole connections.
Precast concrete adjusting rings (grade rings) are placed on top of the precast manhole cone section or precast flat top reducing section. These grade rings are used for close adjustment of top elevation before setting the street casting assembly to final grade.
U.P. Concrete Pipe Company also distributes East Jordan Iron Works street castings and hatch assemblies for manholes, catch basins and other miscellaneous uses. These castings are manufactured for light, medium, heavy and extra heavy duty designations to reflect load ratings. The most widely accepted criteria for highway traffic loading is AASHTO and their “Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges” which define H-20 and HS-20 loading. All EJIW castings designated as heavy duty are designed to meet or exceed these loading criteria.
